Robocon is an outstanding competition where mental prowess and innovation of the best young minds of the Asia Pacific Region are showcased by way of specially designed Robots competing in a unique game. Each year, a host country creates a game theme based on its culture and history and brings together people from different cultures to think, create and play together, and through this forge ties of friendship and understanding.
Doordarshan has actively supported and participated in this activity from its inception in 2002 and is the proud Host of Robocon 2008 in the city of Pune, India. From 4 teams in the initial year we had 38 teams from leading Engineering Colleges participate in the National Robocon this year in India. We are happy that our traditional Indian Govinda will now be played and enjoyed by participants from 17 countries. We support this activity as a part of our Public Service mandate.
Robots are no longer merely a flight of fantasy . They have transgressed the realm of science fiction to become a reality today. A reality that is evident and manifest in a variety of roles; from intricate surgical procedures that robots help perform in the operation theater to risky industrial processes that cannot easily be done manually. It is our endeavour to provide a platform to our young students to showcase their abilities in this field and to be able to compete internationally. Robocon provides an excellent opportunity for such exposure, exchange and learning. We are happy to be a part of this venture.
I wish all participating teams Godspeed and good luck!
